EURO 2016 Day 6 Preview

The second round of Group games gets under way today with all the teams in Group A in action while Russia and Slovakia face off in Group B. Here’s your preview of today’s fixtures.

RUS SLVK

Russia were far from brilliant in their opening game against England that saw their defence tested on several occasions. Goalkeeper Igor Akinveef single-handedly kept Russia with in touching distance of England. In the end the Russians best bit of play resulted in the late looping equaliser off the head of Vasili Berezutski. Slovakia were defeated in their opening game by Wales a Gareth Bale free kick was pegged back by substitute Duda but Hal Robson Kanu put Wales back in front. Slovakia need a result today and will look to target a suspect Russian defence.

ROM SWZ

Romania gave hosts France a run for their money in the tournament’s opening game last Friday. They dispelled pre-match rumours of being a negative defensive team by playing a high back line. They had chances in front of goal that were badly squandered and drew level with the French thanks to a penalty. Payet’s strike was unstoppable and Romania could easily have drawn with France. Switzerland took an early lead against Albania although the 10 men of Albania pushed the Swiss all the way and that slender goal was all that separated the sides. Romania will really want to win this one so the Swiss better be prepared for one hell of a battle.

FRA ALB

Hosts France were saved by a spectacular Dimitri Payet strike against Romania last week. Some of the nations big names failed to live up to expectations with Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba unusually substandard on Friday. It’s being report the duo will be dropped for this game against a hard-working Albania whose hopes of a strong opening result were dented by captain Lorik Cana who saw red. Albania still pushed the Swiss and the French won’t have it all their own way this evening. If Les Bleus don’t turn up tonight they will be in deep trouble.
