Chris Farrell set to miss remainder of 6 Nations

Ireland have suffered another midfield injury blow as Chris Farrell is expected to miss the rest of the Six Nations.

Farrell was named man of the match in Ireland’s 37-27 win over Wales but suffered knee ligament damage in an open training session at the Aviva Stadium today.

An IRFU statement said: “Chris Farrell received treatment on the field earlier on Tuesday after twisting his knee in the turf.

“He subsequently jogged on to re-join the rest of the playing group and felt well.

Farrell has impressed in the opening games of the championship.

“He was sent for a precautionary scan this afternoon which indicated some ligament damage had occurred and he will now see a specialist.

“Chris is unlikely to be available for the remainder of the Six Nations.”

Ireland are already without Robbie Henshaw, who was ruled out of the remainder of the championship after suffering a shoulder injury against Italy, while Ulster’s Jared Payne is another long-term absentee.

Leinster’s Garry Ringrose made his return from an ankle injury against Southern Kings last Friday and could be handed the No 13 shirt for Ireland’s game with Scotland on March 10th as they bid for a third Six Nations title in five years.
