Alisson set to miss Atletico Madrid clash

Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow with goalkeeper Alisson Becker ruled out of next week’s crucial Champions League tie at home to Atletico Madrid.

The Brazil international sustained a hip injury in training this week, meaning he missed the FA Cup defeat at Chelsea and will now sit out Saturday’s visit of Bournemouth in the Premier League and – more significantly – Wednesday’s last-16 second leg against Diego Simeone’s side as they seek to claw back a 1-0 deficit.

“Unfortunately Ali is out. He had a little incident in training before the Chelsea game,” said manager Jurgen Klopp.

“We all thought it was nothing and it was clear he would not play any way, the plan was he was on the bench. There, we thought, ‘Come on, we don’t have to take any risks’ so left him out of the squad.

“[There was a] scan the next day and they found something. So now he is out. We will see next week for sure and then we will see.

“He is not available for tomorrow and then the next week. We have to judge the situation. I would say after the international break 100%. Whatever we can get before that we will see.”
