Arsenal complete Mustafi signing

Arsenal have announced the signing of German centre back Shkodran Mustafi from Spanish side Valencia for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £35m.

The 24-year-old spent two seasons with Valencia where he made 64 league appearances. He was also a member of Germany’s World Cup winning squad in 2014.

Mustafi began his senior career coming through the Everton academy before a two year spell with Serie A side Sampdoria. He captured the attention of many European clubs while at Valencia and has been linked to the Premier League side for some weeks now.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”

Mustafi becomes The Gunners sixth signing of the summer following the accquisitions of Lucas Perez, Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding, Takuma Asano and Kelechi Nwakali.

Earlier today defender Calum Chambers completed a season-long loan move to Middlesborough where he will be given more first team minutes.
