Aston Villa relegated-Premier League Roundup

Aston Villa were today relegated after 28 years in the top flight. Elsewhere Norwich have once again been dragged into the relegation battle after a 3-0 home loss to Sunderland.  Here are all the results:

Norwich City 0-3 Sunderland

Norwich were today defeated by a Sunderland team who look prepared to battle for their status in the top flight. Fabio Borini opened the scoring from the penalty spot with 41 minutes played. Soon after the restart Borini provided a brilliant cross to teammate Jermain Defoe who made it 2-0. Norwich failed to find the back of the net and a Duncan Watmore goal in injury time sealed all three points for Sunderland.

Everton 1-1 Southampton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez’s position at the club remains in doubt after his side allowed Southampton back into the game.Both sides failed to find the back of the net in the first half however Funes Mori put the home side ahead with 68 minutes played. However Sadio Mane fired home Southampton’s equalizer. This draw has seriously dented Southampton’s hopes of gaining Europa League football next season.

Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa

The inevitable was today confirmed as Manchester United beat Aston Villa today sending Villa to the Championship. United took the lead through youngster Marcus Rashford who now has four goals in his seven Premier League appearances. There was nearly a late twist as Villa  kicked into gear however a crucial Daley Blind tackle on substitute Gestede prevented him turning home a late leveller.

Newcastle United 3-0 Swansea

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez saw his side pick up three vital points in the Premier League relegation scrap as Newcastle defeated Swansea 3-0. Youngster Jamaal Lascelles gave the home side the lead five minutes before halftime. The Newcastle faithful were made to wait before they could celebrate a second goal when Moussa Sissoko found the back of the net with 83 minutes on the clock. Andros Townsend made it three nil in injury time. Newcastle remain in 19th position on 28 points but look set to battle until the final day of the season.

West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Watford

Heurelho Gomes saved two Saido Berahino penalties as Watford ended a six-game wait for a Premier League win with a 1-0 victory at West Brom.The Brazilian proved impenetrable as Berahino was thwarted from 12 yards on 68 minutes and again three minutes from time.In a game which lacked chances, Ben Watson produced the only moment of true quality, turning Adlene Guedioura’s low corner past Ben Foster via the post on 27 minutes. Watford held on to the win despite West Brom’s best efforts.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick and Kevin De Bruyne starred on his return to Stamford Bridge as Manchester City defeated 10-man Chelsea 3-0 to climb to third in the Barclays Premier League.The visitors controlled the first half on Saturday evening and went ahead through Aguero on 33 minutes, although the forward’s effort was aided by a deflection off Gary Cahill.The Argentina international finished a City counter-attack for his second, and sealed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Fernandinho was tripped by Thibaut Courtois, with the Chelsea goalkeeper sent off as a result.

Bournemouth welcome Liverpool tomorrow while leaders Leicester face a tough game at home to West Ham. Arsenal host Crystal Palace in the final game on Sunday.
