Belgium’s friendly with Portugal moved following Brussels attacks

Belgium’s friendly between Portugal had been called off following the terrorist attacks which took place in Brussels yesterday. The match was scheduled to take place next Tuesday at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, but has been cancelled “for safety and precaution” at the request of the city of Brussels, according to a statement by the Belgian FA. The Belgian national team has today decided not to train for a second day in a row in the wake of the attacks.The match will now be played instead in the Portuguese city of Leiria on Tuesday at 1945 GMT, the same time and date as originally scheduled.

It was reported in Belgian media that manager Marc Wilmots and his players wanted the game to go ahead but rejected plans to move the game to Portugal. Belgium’s last international friendly against Spain was also called off due to a security threat following the Paris attacks.
