Feghouli wins red-card appeal

West Ham have successfully appealed against the red card picked up by Sofiane Feghouli in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Monday.

Feghouli was shown a straight red card by referee Mike Dean in the 15th minute with the game goalless following a sliding challenge with United defender Phil Jones.

Manager Slaven Bilic said West Ham would be lodging an appeal of wrongful dismissal to the Football Association and vice-chairman Karren Brady confirmed on Wednesday the Hammers had been successful in overturning the automatic three-game ban given to Feghouli.

Brady said on Twitter: “I have just received a call to confirm Sofiane will not be required to serve a 3 match suspension and is eligible to play Friday.”

Slaven Bilic embraces Feghouli following his dismissal.

United were able to make their extra man count in the second half at London Stadium, with Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbing the goals to earn Jose Mourinho’s side a sixth straight Premier League win.

Feghouli, who was not included in the Algeria squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, will be free to feature in West Ham’s home FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester City on Friday.
