Goals galore in the Europa League – UEL Roundup

The Europa League produced plenty of goals tonight as eight teams battle it out for a spot in the semi-finals.

Bourssia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp returned to his former employers tonight as the English side traveled to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund. The home side had chances to take the lead in the first half but it was Liverpool who went ahead. A Divock Origi goal gave them the lead with 36 minutes gone. Just three minutes into the second half Mats Hummels headed home an equaliser. Liverpool tested Roman Weidenfeller in the Dortmund goal but the veteran Keeper was on fire tonight. A finely poised tie but a crucial away goal for the Merseyside club.

Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Sevilla

A rainy night in the Basque Country saw the Spanish sides level at half time but this goal drought was ended in the second half when Bilbao took the lead through the competitions leading goalscorer Adritz Aduritz. However reigning champions Sevilla produced a strong comeback with goals from Kolodzeiejczak and Iborra which sees the Andulasians take two away goals back to the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Braga 1-2 Shakhtar Donetsk

Portuguese side Braga hosted Ukrainian powerhouse Shakhtar tonight. The home side were dealt a blow on the stroke of halftime when Rakitskiy fired Donetsk ahead. With 15 minutes left in the match that lead was extended by Ferreryra. An 89th minute goal for Eduardo gave the home fans something to cheer about but they face a tough task next week in Ukraine.

Villarreal 2-1 Sparta Prague 

Czech club Sparta Prague traveled to Spain today to face an inform Villarreal side. Star striker Cedric Bakambu gave Villarreal the lead with three minutes played. However Jakub Brabec scored an equaliser for Sparta just before the half time. Bakambu was on hand once again and scored the winner with 63 minutes gone. Still plenty to play for next week.
