Jonathan Walters out of Irish squad

The Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia has been dealt another blow following yesterdays news that midfielder Harry Arter would miss the games through injury.  It was today announced striker Jonathan Walters will also miss the friendlies and has returned to his club Stoke to undergo treatment on a hamstring injury.

Walters sat out training yesterday and is not the only player that could be forced to leave the squad through injury. Jeff Hendrick is struggling with a shoulder injury and has returned to Derby for treatment while captain Robbie Keane awaits a scan on a knock he picked up and once again sat out training.

The Republic of Ireland face Switzerland on Friday in the Aviva Stadium.
