Juventus defender Daniele Rugani tests positive for coronavirus

Juventus have confirmed that Italy international defender Daniele Rugani has tested positive for COVID-19, known as the Coronavirus.

In a statement released on Wednesday evening, the club announced that Rugani has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus, but currently has no symptoms of the illness.

“The footballer, Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” read a statement.

“Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including those who have had contact with him.”

The Bianconeri had a training session today, so this would effectively mean putting the entire squad and staff into quarantine.

Serie A has been suspended until April 3, but Juventus were due to play Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League next week.

This news comes after Federico Bernardeschi announced he was going to self-isolate in the Juventus Hotel due to an abundance of caution to protect his family.

Rugani is the first Serie A player to be diagnosed with the Coronavirus, which has so far struck over 12,000 Italians, killing 827 people.

An extra 196 fatalities were registered over the last 24 hours alone in the country.

Centre-back Rugani is 25 years old and joined Juventus from Empoli in 2015.

He has made seven competitive appearances for the club this season.
