Liverpool sign Alisson for world record €75m

Liverpool have completed the world-record signing of Alisson Becker on a reported five-year deal from Roma.

The €75m fee smashes the record for a goalkeeper, surpassing the €40m Manchester City paid for Ederson last summer.

Gianluigi Buffon had been the world’s most expensive goalkeeper for an incredible 17 years, with Juventus forking out over €52m for the Italian in 2001.

“I’m really happy, it’s a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning,” Alisson told liverpoolfc.com.

“In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family. You can be certain that I’ll give my all.”

The Brazilian’s arrival at Anfield relegates Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, while fellow Reds shot-stopper Danny Ward is reportedly in talks with Leicester.

Alisson was impressive in the Serie A and Champions League last season.

Alisson featured 49 times for Roma last season, including their 7-6 aggregate defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals.

The 25-year-old was also Brazil’s No 1 for the World Cup, playing every minute of their campaign, which came to an end in the quarter-finals to Belgium.

Alisson had kept three clean sheets in Russia prior to that 2-1 Belgium defeat, while he recorded 17 cleans sheets from 37 Serie A games last season.

After deals to take Naby Keïta, Fabinho, and Xherdan Shaqiri to Anfield, Alisson becomes the club’s fourth summer signing, taking the their spending to €200m for the summer.

Manager Jürgen Klopp was also delighted to see Brazil’s number one join the club: “At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers – then it’s not a long thought, to be honest, it’s only that you need to have a little talk with the owners! They were quite excited, so we did it.”
