Manchester United fined for late kick off by UEFA

Manchester United have been fined €15,000 by UEFA for arriving late to their Champions League fixture against Valencia earlier this month.

United’s team bus arrived at Old Trafford behind schedule, resulting in the kick-off time for the match being delayed by five minutes.

Jose Mourinho blamed the delay on Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and accused them of refusing to provide the bus with a suitable escort to the ground from the Lowry Hotel.

However, the police said there was no specific threat to the bus, and that United were given several months’ notice.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body have fined United €5,000 for the late arrival of the team, and a further €10,000 for the late kick-off.

Mourinho has also been issued a formal warning over the late kick-off.

The match finished in a goalless draw, with the return fixture due to be played at the Estadio Mestalla on December 12.
