Neil Lennon named interim manager at Celtic

Neil Lennon has been confirmed as Celtic manager until the end of the season following the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Leicester.

The club confirmed Lennon would be in charge for Wednesday’s trip to face Hearts with new assistant manager John Kennedy and first-team coach Damien Duff by his side.

Duff had previously been reserve team manager at the club.

Lennon said in a statement: “I am absolutely delighted to be named manager of Celtic again. This is a club which has been such a huge part of  my life already and it is an honour to be asked to return.

“I have given everything to Celtic as a player and manager already in my career and I am ready to do the same again. I will be doing all I can to continue the great work that has gone on in recent years.

Lennon enjoyed a successful spell as Celtic manager between 2010 and 2014.

“I am returning to one of the biggest and best clubs in world football and I can’t wait to get started.”

Lennon is a Bhoys legend, having won trophies and league titles both as player and boss.

He left Glasgow in 2014 for an unsuccessful spell at financially struggling Bolton Wanderers before returning to Scotland with Hibernian, who he guided to promotion back to the Premiership.

He left the Edinburgh club in January ‘by mutual consent’ having been suspended by the club days before and his time at Easter Road was rarely without incident.
