Real and Wolfsburg progress – Champions League Roundup

Both Real Madrid and Wolfsburg tonight confirmed their places in next Friday’s Champions Legaue Quaterfinal draw following victories over Roma and Genk respectively.

Real Madrid vs Roma

Real Madrid had won the first leg of this tie 2-0 but that didn’t stop a courageous Roma from trying to pull off a spectacular comeback. Roma very nearly could have shocked the footballing world but missed opportunities from Edin Dzeko and Mohammad Salah saved Real’s blushes. Goals in quick succession from Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez sealed the Italian’s fate as they went out 4-0 on aggregate.

Wolfsburg vs Gent

Gent had conceded three goals at home in the first leg to Wolfsburg before launching a comeback scoring two goals late on. However for the Belgian side their Champions League dream would end tonight. Despite enjoying most of the possession they could not find a route to goal and a strike midway through the second half from Andre Schurrle sealed the German’s spot in the last eight.

Tomorrow night Chelsea host PSG with the Parisians holding a 2-1 lead while Zenit host Benfica who have a one goal advantage heading into the second leg.
