Real Madrid and Mancheter City seal semi-final spots – Champions League Roundup

A dramatic night of Champions League action saw Real Madrid take full advantage of home support to comeback to defeat Wolfsburg while Manchester City secured a famous win at home over PSG.

Madrid players had asked for the home fans to be a twelfth man tonight and their call was certainly answered. However all the headlines will be taken by Cristiano Ronaldo. A hattrick tonight from Ronaldo saw Real comeback from a shocking 2-0 loss last week. He scored his first capitalising on poor Wolfsburg defending with 16 minutes played before doubling the lead a minute later from a corner. With 77 minutes played a well struck free kick slipped thorough the Wolfsburg wall to complete his hattrick. Wolfsburg fans will ponder if things would have ended differently had star man Julian Draxler not been injured late in the first half. Real now look forward to the next round.

Manchester City 1-0 PSG (3-2 agg)

Manchester City knew they had most of the work done heading into this tie with two vital away goals from last week’s leg. City had a perfect opportunity to take the lead in the first half when Sergio Aguero was fouled by PSG keeper Kevin Trapp. With half an hour gone Aguero stroked the penalty wide of the right post much to the joy of the visiting PSG fans. However Kevin de Bruyne who scored in the first leg put the tie beyond the reach of PSG when his curling effort in the 76th minute found the back of the net. PSG had the ball in the City net on a few occasions but they were ruled out due to correct offside calls.Coach Laurent Blanc will be questioned for playing three at the back in such a crucial game. PSG exit the completion at this stage for the fourth year in a row while Man City move into the semi-finals of the competiton for the first time.

Atletico Madrid host FC Barcelona tomorrow night with the Catalans holding a slender 2-1 lead. Benfica welcome Bayern Munich with the Germans edging the tie 1-0.
