Republic of Ireland up to 29th in FIFA Rankings

The Republic of Ireland have moved up 13 places in the latest FIFA world rankings from 42nd in the world to 29th. Wins for Martin O’Neill’s men against Gibraltar,Georgia and last Octobers famous victory over reining World Cup champions Germany before dispatching Bosnia-Herzegovina in EURO 2016 play-off has seen the boys in green rise up the rankings.

The worlds top ten are as follows:

  1. Belgium
  2. Argentina
  3. Spain
  4. Germany
  5. Chile
  6. Brazil
  7. Portugal
  8. Colombia
  9. England
  10. Austria.

Northern Ireland are one place higher than the Republic sitting in 28th. The ever improving Welsh are now 17th in the world while Scotland are ranked 45th.

Today’s news is a positive for Irish soccer fans ahead of this summer’s European Championship. No doubt they will hope to see a further rise when the next rankings are released!
