Shane Long fit for Denmark encounter

Shane Long provided a boost to Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill as he took a full part in training today.

The Southampton striker had been a doubt for Saturday’s Nations League clash with Denmark due to an ankle knock but had no reaction to the injury.

Ireland have struggled for goals in recent games and the Tipperary man will be welcomed back by O’Neill as he seeks to reverse recent heavy defeats to both Denmark and Wales (Tuesday 16 October) at the Aviva Stadium.

Denmark playmaker Christian Eriksen, who has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Real Madrid, is expected to miss the game with a stomach complaint injury.

Ireland are bottom of their three-team Nations League B group after a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Wales in Cardiff last month.
