Tottenham to play all home matches at Wembley next season

Tottenham have confirmed they will move to Wembley for the 2017/18 season while their new stadium at Northumberland Park is completed.

Spurs, who have been playing their European ties at the national stadium this term, will host 27 of their domestic and European home games at Wembley at the maximum capacity of 90,000.

It was reported earlier this month that the club had been working hard to secure assurances over their new stadium development from the Greater London Authority and Haringey Council before committing to the dismantling of White Hart Lane – their home for 118 years.

And, ahead what will be the last north London derby at the Lane this Sunday chairman Daniel Levy said: “Both on and of the pitch this is an incredibly exciting time in the history of our club.

“The Lane means a huge amount to each and very one of us and we needed to gain greater certainty on the delivery of the new stadium before we made the final decision to commence with the decommissions of our iconic, historic home.

“We shall ensure that we give the Lane a fitting farewell when we play our last match there on May 14.

“Wembley will be our home for a season and then we will return to what will be one of the best stadiums of its kind and the most unique in the world, playing host to NFL games too – a stadium that will be key to our future growth and success.”

Tottenham’s new home being build adjacent to White Hart Lane will be a 61,000-seater stadium that will not only host Spurs but also American football for at least the next 10 years, as well as concerts and other events.

The structure has been rising at pace around the current ground in N17, which has been operating at a reduced capacity as a result of works in the north-east corner, exciting fans as Spurs have pushed for the Premier League title under Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs host their arch rivals at 4pm on Sunday, straight after Chelsea go to Everton looking to extend their four-point gap over Tottenham at the top, and their last ever game at the Lane will be against Manchester United on May 14.
