Red Bull’s Max Verstappen sent out a chilling message to his Formula 1 rivals with a crushing victory in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. The defending champion finished 22 seconds clear of teammate Sergio Perez while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz came home third ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc. Mercedes’ George Russell dropped from third to finish fifth amid cooling issues McLaren’s Lando Norris was sixth.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen put in a crushing performance to set pole position for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. The world champion was 0.228 seconds quicker than Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in second. Mercedes’ George Russell was third from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. Ferrari secured a 1-2 finish at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix as Charles Leclerc converted his pole position into a victory ahead of Carlos Sainz. Red Bull had looked on to have two cars finish in the top four but late power issues for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez saw the pair DNF allowing Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton to round out the podium.
