Italy hang on to hand Wales first wooden spoon in 21 years

Italy beat Wales in Cardiff to achieve their most successful Six Nations campaign and consign their hosts to a first Wooden Spoon in 21 years. A try from wing Monty Ioane and two Paulo Garbisi penalties gave Italy an 11-0 half-time lead. Lorenzo Pani added a brilliant score with Garbisi and Martin Page-Relo kicking penalties. Wales responded with tries from Elliot Dee, Will Rowlands and Mason Grady to give the score some respectability.

Wales earn much needed win against Italy in Rome

Wales recorded a much needed first win of their Guinness Six Nations campaign after beating Italy 29-17 at Stadio Olimpico. Warren Gatland’s team arrived in Rome with the wooden spoon a realistic prospect following successive defeats against Ireland, Scotland and England but managed to see off the Italians who left plenty of scores on the field.

Italy made it three wins from three in Group A with a 1-0 win over ten man Wales thanks to a Matteo Pessina goal. The home side controlled the game throughout but the result won’t bother Wales too much as they progress to the last 16 along with the Italians thanks to their superior goal difference compared to Switzerland who finished third.

Wales run riot in Rome against impotent Italy

Wales moved to within one step of a Guinness Six Nations Grand Slam after scoring seven tries in a comprehensive thrashing of Italy in Rome. Hooker Ken Owens scored a brace of tries in the Eternal City while Louis Rees-Zammit scored his fourth try of the tournament.
