Manchester United appoint Erik ten Hag as new manager

Manchester United have appointed Ajax coach Erik ten Hag as their next manager. The Dutchman, 52, will take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of this season on a three-year deal which can be extended by a year. Rangnick, who replaced the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, is set to move into a consultancy role.

Liverpool moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a dominant 4-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield. The trio of Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored the goals, two of them in the first 22 minutes, in an emphatic performance to which United simply had no answer.

Sean Dyche has been sacked as Burnley manager after 10 years with the club battling relegation from the Premier League. Burnley are currently 18th in the table, four points from safety. They have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, losing 2-0 to fellow relegation strugglers Norwich on Sunday.

Brentford put four past Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Brentford produced perhaps the performance of the season to thrash Chelsea 4-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Christian Eriksen among the goal scorers as they sealed a first west London derby victory at their rivals in 83 years. Thomas Frank’s side impressed in the first half but trailed three minutes into the second but responded in some fashion.
