Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean has announced he will not take part in next week’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in order to focus on recovering from burns suffered in his opening lap crash last weekend. The race was set to be his last in the sport as his contract was not extended with the US team.

Brazilian driver Pietro Fittipaldi will race in place of Romain Grosjean for Haas in this weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix following the Frenchman’s fiery accident in yesterday’s Bahrain Grand Prix. Grosjean is being treated for burns to his hands in hospital but has avoided serious injury.

Hamilton wins Bahrain Grand Prix marred by horrific Grosjean crash

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the Bahrain Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon but the race was overshadowed by an opening lap crash that saw Romain Grosjean’s Haas engulfed in flames. The Frenchman miraculously emerged from the inferno with minor injuries.
