The Netherlands secured a place in the Euro 2024 finals as Wout Weghorst’s strike earned them a 1-0 home win over the Republic of Ireland. The Hoffenheim striker moved clear before rifling into the roof of the net after 11 minutes. The hosts dominated a low-tempo encounter with Republic keeper Gavin Bazunu pushing Tijjani Reijnders’ shot onto the post early in the second half.

Netherlands fightback to crush Irish hopes of qualification

Republic of Ireland lost 2-1 to the Netherlands in their Euro 2024 Group B qualifier as their slim qualification hopes went up in smoke. Ireland got off to a dream start when, with just two minutes gone, Dutch skipper Virgil van Dijk was penalised for handling James McClean’s corner and Adam Idah fired home from the penalty spot. However a Cody Gakpo penalty and a second half strike from Wout Weghorst turned the tie for the Dutch.

Barcelona have suffered back-to-back defeats in LaLiga as they slumped to a 1-0 loss at Rayo Vallecano this evening. The defeat — Barca’s third of the season — comes just days after coach Ronald Koeman’s side were beaten 2-1 against Real Madrid in El Clasico.

David Alaba scored on his El Clasico debut as Real Madrid recorded their fourth straight win over Barcelona picking up a 2-1 win at the Camp Nou. The sides were evenly matched throughout and as Barca pushed for an equaliser Lucas Vazquez stretched their advantage only for Sergio Aguero to pull one back.
