EURO 2016 Day 2 Preview

The tournament got off to a flying start last night when France and Romania played out an exciting game. Today we will hopefully see three games of spectacular football. Here is a preview of today’s encounters.

Albania vs Switz

Newcomers Albania take on a strong Swiss side in Lens today. Hopefully Albania will play free-flowing football like Romania to quash naysayers opinions of the negative defensive style that is attached to certain teams. Albania don’t have too many household names but worked hard in qualifying to earn their place at the competition. For Switzerland keep an eye on Premier League player Xherdan Shaqiri and new Arsenal player Granit Xhaka. It’s hard to see past a Swiss win today but the game should be entertaining.

Wales Slovakia

Wales kickoff their European adventure with a tricky clash against a resilient Slovakian side. Gareth Bale will need help from teammates Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Williams in order to overcome a strong Slovakian side that beat Spain in qualifying. Slovakia’s star player Marek Hamsik was crucial to the sides success in qualifying and recently scored a superb goal against Germany in a friendly. Underestimate Slovakia at your peril! A tense affair awaits with goals coming at a premium in my opinion.

ENG V RUS

England face Russia in today’s final game. This game has unfortunately been overshadowed by fan violence in Marseille with some English fans clashing with French riot police. Nevertheless lets focus on the football. England are full of confidence after qualifying with ten wins from ten however Russia showed their ability by turning around what looked to be a disastrous qualifying campaign to finish second in their group. Harry Kane is expected to lead the English attack supported by captain Wayne Rooney. Russia will look towards attacking duo Artem Dzyuba and Aleksandr Kokorin to beat Joe Hart in the English goal. Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev has plenty of experience on the national stage and will prove difficult to beat. Expect an entertaining game this evening with a few goals between the two.
