Pascal Ackermann edged the final sprint in Madrid at the end of La Vuelta a Espana to beat Sam Bennett to the stage win. The sprint provided a dramatic conclusion to a brilliant Grand Tour, with Primoz Roglic being confirmed as winner for the second year in a row.

David Gaudu (Groupama FDJ) won Stage 17 of La Vuelta a Espana as Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) clung on to his overall lead to go into the processional final stage as the race leader. Richard Carapaz (Ineos) and Hugh Carthy (EF Pro Cycling) both attacked on the final climb, but neither were able to take enough seconds off Roglic to deny the Jumbo-Visma rider.

Jasper Philipsen won a wind-swept and sodden Stage 15 of La Vuelta on Thursday, outlasting Pascal Ackermann and Jannik Steimle in a reduced sprint finish. No change in the general classification saw Primoz Roglic retain the red jersey from rivals Richard Carapaz and Hugh Carthy with three days of the race to go.

Tim Wellens won Stage 14 of La Vuelta, beating Michael Woods in a technical uphill sprint after a successful breakaway. There were no notable changes in the general classification as all three riders on the podium finished in the same group.
