Michael Matthews wins sprint finish on stage 3 – Giro d’Italia

Michael Matthews won Stage 3 of the Giro d’Italia – a 213km mostly flat ride from Vasto to Melfi that ended in an uphill sprint. The peloton was strung out over the Cat. 3 and Cat. 4 climbs of Valico dei Laghi di Monticchio and Valico La Croce. And it was left to Matthews and Mads Pedersen to battle it out on the punchy finish. Remco Evenepoel extended his lead in the GC.

Jonathan Milan takes stage 2 glory as crash derails peloton – Giro d’Italia

Italy’s Jonathan Milan won a reduced bunch sprint in San Salvo after a late crash split the peloton and caused minor chaos in Stage 2 of the Giro d’Italia. British duo Mark Cavendish and Tao Geoghegan Hart were among the riders disrupted by the incident as Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel stayed out of trouble to retain the pink jersey.

Remco Evenepoel dominates opening time trial at Giro d’Italia

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) drew first blood at the 2023 Giro d’Italia, storming to victory in the stage 1 time trial to take the first pink jersey as overall leader. It was a superlative display from the young Belgian, who not only put 22 seconds into Hour Record holder Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) but also dealt huge damage to his general classification rivals, notably putting 43 seconds into Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma)

Ireland set to launch bid to host Tour de France Grand Départ

The island of Ireland intends to pursue a joint North-South bid to host the opening stages of a future Tour de France in either 2026 or 2027. Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Minister Gordon Lyons MLA have today submitted an expression of interest in the formal bidding process to the Tour organisers.
