Evan Ferguson’s goal and a superb penalty save from Caoimhin Kelleher helped Ireland to a 1-0 win over Finland in their UEFA Nations League clash. Robbie Brady fired home an 88th-minute winner as the Republic of Ireland picked up their first victory under Heimir Hallgrimsson with a 2-1 win in Finland. Finland were gifted a first-half opener when Irish captain Nathan Collins underhit a back pass, which allowed Joel Pohjanpalo to race through and slot past Caoimhin Kelleher. However a second half fightback saw Liam Scales and Brady score to power Ireland to a crucial victory.

Kellie Harrington has joined the pantheon of Irish sporting greats. She retained her Olympic lightweight title, defeating her Chinese rival Wenlu Yang, before confirming her retirement from the sport. Already the first female athlete to win two Olympic medals at different games, she now joins Pat O’Callaghan, Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy as the only Irish athletes to retain an Olympic title.
