Dylan Groenewegen wins photo finish sprint on stage 3 – Tour de France

Stage 3 came down to a four-way battle between Dylan Groenewegen, Wout van Aert, Jasper Philipsen and Peter Sagan. Van Aert launched first but was too preoccupied with events on his immediate right as Sagan moved up his inside, with Groenewegen darting through on the line to win by the narrowest of margins. Philipsen took third ahead of Sagan, who wagged his finger at Van Aert after the finish.

Primož Roglič is the Vuelta champion again after another imperious display in Spain. The 31-year-old backed up his time trial gold medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with another brilliant performance. Magnus Cort powered to a third win thanks to some selfless support from his EF Education-Nippo teammate Lawson Craddock in the breakaway on a day of high drama on La Vuelta. Cort and Craddock were part of an initial 24-man move which was whittled down to seven riders over the course of a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase from the peloton during a rolling Stage 19 in Galicia.

Colombia’s Miguel Angel Lopez emerged through the mist to take a splendid victory in Stage 18 on the Vuelta’s first ever ascent of the fearsome Altu d’El Gamoniteiru. Slovenia’s Primoz Roglic soared to second place to strengthen his grip on the red jersey as Movistar teammates Enric Mas and Lopez consolidated their positions on the podium.
