Wiffen takes bronze as Bobby Finke sets new world record in 1500m

Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen has won the bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle to become a double Olympic medallist. Six days after been crowned the new 800m Olympic champion, the 23-year-old had to give way to defending Olympic champion Bobby Finke, who led virtually from the start to win the gruelling 30-lap event in a new world record time of 14:30.67 holding off Wiffen and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri.

Daniel Wiffen storms to gold in 800m final setting new Olympic record

Daniel Wiffen has won the gold medal in the 800m freestyle to become Ireland’s first Olympic champion at the 2024 Paris Games. He did exactly what he as promised in the Paris La Defense Arena tonight completing an astonishing 24 hours for Irish swimming. Mona McSharry takes bronze for Ireland in 100m breaststroke final

Mona McSharry has won a historic Olympic bronze medal at the Paris Olympics tonight. The 23-year Sligo women finished third in the 100m breaststroke final at the Paris La Défense Arena in the French capital. Olympic record holder Tatjana Smith from South Africa tool the gold in 1:05.28 ahead of China’s Qianting Tang (1.05.25).
