AS Monaco sign Stevan Jovetic from Inter Milan

AS Monaco have signed Stevan Jovetic from Inter Milan to replace the Paris Saint-Germain-bound Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is set to tie up a move to PSG and Ligue 1 champions Monaco have moved to replace him with the arrival of Jovetic.

The French champions paid Inter Milan a fee reported to be in the region of €11million for the Montenegro international.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Jovetic told the club’s official website. “AS Monaco is a big club that played in the Champions League semifinal last season and won the French league.

“There are great players in this team, that’s why I chose AS Monaco.”

The 27-year-old came to prominence during his five-year spell at Fiorentina before he joined Manchester City in 2013.

Jovetic scored 6 goals in 31 appearances for Inter.

His stay in England was a disappointment though, scoring just eight Premier League goals, and he was even dropped from City’s Champions League squad during the 2014-15 season by then-manager Manuel Pellegrini, a move that sounded the death knell of his City career.

Jovetic spent the 2015-16 campaign on loan at Inter Milan before joining the Nerazzurri on a permanent basis, but failed to convince either Frank de Boer or the Dutchman’s successor, Stefano Pioli, he was worth a regular place in the starting XI.

He joined Sevilla on loan midway through last season, scoring seven times in 24 outings for the La Liga outfit.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev added: “We’re very happy to welcome Stevan Jovetic to AS Monaco. He has played in the biggest leagues and has experience of the very highest level.

“At 27, he’s a great player who is at his peak: we’re convinced he will find here all the requirements for him to fully express his talent.”
