Bryan Sheehan out for up to six weeks

Kerry captain Bryan Sheehan has been ruled out potentially for up to six weeks with a hand injury.Kerry manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice confirmed on Monday evening that the St Mary’s man injured his hand playing for Kerry against Mayo on March 13, and that the player will meet a specialist to confirm the extent of the damage. Fitzmaurice added “We are not sure of the exact nature of the injury just yet. The top end will be six weeks, the bottom end will be two weeks. It will depend on what the specialist says to him”.

The injury occurred at the throw in in the Kingdom’s latest victory and the Kerry manager said “the ball broke away and he went to tackle and he just hurt his hand.” If Sheehan is ruled out for six weeks he will miss the reminder of Kerry’s Allianz League campaign which would be a huge blow to the 37 times All Ireland Champions. Apart from Sheehan’s recent injury the Kingdom are welcoming a number of players back into the fold. Killian Young, Paul Geaney, David Moran and Tommy Walsh all played with their clubs over the weekend and are expected to feature in Fitmaurice’s panel ahead of this weekends clash away to Monagahan. The only players expected to miss the game are Sheehan, Anthony Maher and James O’Donoghue. Maher is recovering from  hip surgery while O’Donoghue recuperates from a shoulder surgery in the off season.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice will have to fill the large gap left in his midfield.

Kerry face Monaghan in Clones on Sunday and a win will all but secure their place in the Division 1 semi-finals.
