EURO 2016 Day 12 Preview

The standings in both Group C and D will be finalised today with four games kicking off today. Here’s your preview of today’s fixtures.

NIR GER

Northern Ireland put their opening defeat to Poland behind them last time out as they secured a 2-0 win over Ukraine. They sit in third on three points and have put themselves in contention for a place in the last 16. Germany impressed against Ukraine but failed to create clear-cut chances in their draw against Poland. Sitting joint top heading into this one the Germans will look to win today in order to take top spot. Northern Ireland will play as they did against Poland and will have to absorb a lot of pressure. It is hard to look past a German win this evening.

UKR POL

Ukraine host Poland today in a game that will be highly competitive. Poland sit joint top of the table and have aspirations to top the group. Ukraine have failed to score in their two group games so far but they have created chances. Poland had the better chances against Germany last time out and should look to build on that strong showing. They are the favourites heading into this game and should have enough of an incentive to secure a win this evening but it certainly wont be easy for them.

CRO SPAIN

Croatia and Spain face off in what is set to be a fascinating game. Croatia have shown their talent in their opening games beating Turkey before a late concentration lapse allowed the Czech Republic to snatch a late draw. That game was overshadowed by fan trouble in the Croatian section and unfortunately Croatian ultras have supposedly targeted today’s game as another to cause trouble. Spain have been impressive in both of their games to date. They left it late against the Czech Republic but dominated Turkey score three superb goals. This game is my pick of the day and should be a great battle.

CZE TUR

The Czech Republic showed great determination against Croatia in their last game to come back from being two nil down to leveling the game. Despite the heart they showed they also displayed defensive frailties. Croatia could have easily scored three goals as Petr Cech was left exposed by his defence on a number of occasions. Turkey have never really looked like scoring in any of their games. Half chances have been created but upfront they lack the required finish. Their own fans have not been happy booing the team and targeting the captain Arda Turan for some special attention. Turkey are hungry for a win and if they can get their act together this Czech side is there for the taking. Saying that the Czech Republic have also created chances troubling Spain on one occasion when Cesc Fabergas cleared the ball off the line.
