EURO 2016 Day 16 Preview
Following predictable results in yesterday’s last 16 ties today has the potential to see a major upset while two giants face off. Here’s your preview of today’s fixtures.
Italy and Spain face off in a repeat of the 2012 final. Spain humiliated the Italians 4-0 in 2012 so Antonio Conte’s men are out for revenge this evening. Italy topped Group E thanks to wins over Belgium and Sweden before losing to Ireland. Spain also had two wins and a defeat overcoming the Czech Republic and Turkey before being shocked by Croatia. The Italian defence has been incredible so far in the competition and will look to shutout the Spanish strike force that includes Nolito and joint goal scorer Alvaro Morarta. This is set to be an incredible game with two talented sides facing off with only one progressing to the quarter finals.
England take on the ultimate underdogs Iceland tonight in the final Last 16 game. Roy Hodgson’s men were held by Russia and Slovakia in Group B while leaving it late to defeat eventual table toppers Wales. England have been frustrated by sides that display strength in defence so tonight could be an interesting affair. Iceland drew with Portugal and Hungary before and injury time goal saw them defeat Austria to finish second in Group F. The Icelandic players have put their bodies on the line in each game and will give it their all tonight. The last 16 hasn’t produced and upset yet so maybe Iceland can shock the world. England are massive favourites but Iceland will not roll over.
