EURO 2016 Day 3 Preview
Yesterday saw the competition get into full swing with Switzerland and Wales winning while England were stunned by a late Russian equalizer. Today promises to bring more excitement. Here’s your preview to today’s fixtures.
Group D gets underway this afternoon as Turkey face Croatia in an exciting match up. Both sides are full of talent with Turkey boasting players such as Arda Turan, Hakan Calhanoglu and Burak Yilmaz. Croatia are a strong side that will look to dominate with a midfield that features Ivan Rakitic, Luka Modric and upfront Mario Mandzukic will lead the line. These sides have history in the competition – Turkey knocked Croatia out of the competition in a 2008 quarter-final penalty shootout. Croatia have since reaped revenge beating the Turks 3-0 in a play-off for EURO 2012. Expect plenty of skill to be displayed in a tight affair.
The opening game of Group C is extremely exciting for the nation of Northern Ireland as it is their first appearance at the tournament. They face tough opposition in the form of a Polish side who scored 33 goals in the qualifying campaign. Poland will look towards star man Robert Lewandowski to fire them to glory while Michael O’Neill’s side will hope strikers Kyle Lafferty and Will Grigg can propel them to European success. Poland look to be the stronger side on paper but Northern Ireland have shown their ability in qualifying and certainly won’t go down with out a fight. A fascinating match awaits!
World Cup champions Germany get their EURO 2016 campaign underway tonight as they take on Ukraine. Germany have never lost a competitive match against Ukraine and many certainly don’t think that trend will end today. Germany are a powerful side from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to forward Thomas Muller the Germans are well equipped to take on any team. Ukraine will look towards veteran Anatoliy Tymoshcuk to anchor the midfield while their attacking prowess comes from Andriy Yamolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanaka. Ukraine are up against it today but will not roll over. It will most likely be a case of defence v attack but should hopefully be an entertaining game.
