Keane,Doyle,Murphy and Walters all out of Slovakia friendly

Martin O’Neill’s injury list has received a few new additions today as forwards Kevin Doyle, Robbie Keane and Daryl Murphy were all ruled out of Tuesday’s friendly against Slovakia. Kevin Doyle had started on Friday night but a horrific injury has ruled him out of the Slovakia clash. Doyle was replaced on Friday night by Daryl Murphy but the Ipswich man was subbed off before the final whistle and will now return to his club to receive treatment on a calf strain.

O’Neill is now left with limited options upfront.

Jonathan Walters missed Friday’s win over Switzerland through a hamstring strain but was expected to return for the Slovakia match. Unfortunately he has not recovered sufficiently and won’t feature on Tuesday. Captain Robbie Keane who missed the Swiss game was assessed over the weekend but has not recovered from a knock to his knee and will also miss the Slovakia encounter. Martin O’Neil said “Robbie is just a wee bit concerned about the injury now. It’s something he thought was a kick for a start, he thought it would clear up in a couple of days.“He has just felt it’s sore and it’s something he definitely wants looked at now, either here or going back.

“He will miss Tuesday’s game definitely now. I am hoping that’s not a major concern at the moment and I genuinely don’t think it is, so I don’t want to start a bit of scaremongering.”
