Man City progress while PSV take Atletico all the way – Champions League Roundup
Manchester City vs Dynamo Kyiv
Manchester City progressed to the quarterfinals of the Champion’s League for the first time in the clubs history after a 0-0 draw at home to Dynamo Kyiv. The Premier League side had done enough in the first leg scoring three away goals. Kyiv’s only goal over the two legs is merely a consolation for the Ukraninan side.
Manchester City’s win did however come at a cost as they lost captain Vincent Kompany and fellow centre back Nicolas Otamendi through injury. Kompany has only just returned to action from a knee injury and it now appears he has picked up a calf injury. Argentinian Otamendi appeared to injury his knee in a clash with a Kyiv player.
Atletico Madrid vs PSV
Atletico Madrid couldn’t find a way through the PSV defence in the first leg and failed to do so in 90 minutes at home. Zoet in PSV’s goal produced many fine saves to deny the home side but PSV had clear cut chances of their own to take the lead. Into extra time the sides went and at halftime in extra time the sides were still level. The sides went to penalties and PSV scored 7 superb penalties but extra time substitute Narsingh missed for the Dutch side. Juanfran stepped up for Atletico and beat Zoet securing the home sides place in the Champions League quarterfinals.
