Neymar signs 5 year extension with FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona have announced that winger Neymar Jr. has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the Club for the next five seasons, until 30 June 2021. The player’s buy out clause has been fixed at 200 million Euros for the first year of his contract, 222 million for the second and 250 million for the remaining three years.
On 15 July in Barcelona, before the player joins up with the Brazilian national side for the Olympic Games, the agreement will be presented formally.
Neymar was linked to a move away from the Catalan club with Manchester United and PSG the front-runners for his signature. The 24-year-old moved to Barcelona in 2013 and in the past two seasons he has formed a deadly strike partnership with Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi nicknamed ‘MSN’. He has scored 85 goals in 141 appearances and was crucial to the sides treble run in the 2014/15 season.He has won the league twice, the Copa del Rey twice, the European Super Cup, the Spanish Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Furthermore, he scored in the Champions League victory over Juventus in 2015 and in the recent Copa del Rey victory over Sevilla.
He had hinted that he would be remaining in Barcelona last night tweeting “Very happy to continue living the dream! VISCA BARÇA y VISCA CATALUNYA.”
Neymar is a fan favourite at the club and his renewal will bring a smile to the face of many Barca fans today.
