Owen Farrell to join Racing 92 in the summer

Owen Farrell has ended speculation around his future with confirmation that he will join Top 14 giants Racing 92 in the summer.

The Saracens out-half, who is missing the Six Nations to look after his mental heath, has signed a two-year contract.

Farrell will become ineligible for international selection due to Rugby Football Union rules. The RFU does not allow players who are plying their trade abroad to be selected for England.

The three-time Lions tourist has spent his entire career with Saracens after making his senior debut as a 17-year-old in 2008, but has been heavily linked with the Parisians, so much so that the club denied reports earlier this month that an agreement had already been agreed with the out-half.

Farrell won his sixth Premiership title with Saracens last May and his first as club captain.

The 32-year-old became England’s leading points scorer at the World Cup and is out of contract at Saracens at the end of the season.

Racing 92 are coached by former England chief and Leinster senior coach Stuart Lancaster, who gave Farrell his international debut in 2012.

A statement from the Paris club read: “Racing 92 formalises the signing of Owen Farrell within its professional men’s team.

“The English international player is committed to two sporting seasons and will join the Ciel et Blanc squad from 1 July, 2024.”
