Rarely can there have been a more eventful day at the Tour de France, with incidents aplenty along the 199km, gravel-laden parcours. Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic all suffered their respective issues, as Tadej Pogacar pushed hard on the front. In the end the break out front stayed away, with Anthony Turgis outsprinting a frustrated Tom Pidcock to triumph in Troyes.

Girmay sprints to second stage win at the Tour de France

Jonas Abrahamsen led for the vast majority of Saturday’s Stage 8 of the Tour de France, but his combative solo came to nought late on as a charging peloton caught him with 14 kilometres to go. And from the pack, it was Biniam Girmay who surged to a brilliant sprint victory, taking his second win of this year’s race just millimetres ahead of Jasper Philipsen.

Remco Evenepoel powers to victory on stage time trial – Tour de France

Tadej Pogacar’s lead in the general classification was cut to 33 seconds as Remco Evenepoel stormed to a first victory at the Tour de France. Evenepoel delivered on his pre-stage hype by taking the fight to the Slovenian in the 25.3km individual time trial, despite having a huge fright when he thought he had suffered a puncture late on. Primoz Roglic finished third, just ahead of Jonas Vingegaard.

Dylan Groenewegen edges competition in stage 6 sprint – Tour de France

Dylan Groenewegen joined Biniam Girmay and record-breaker Mark Cavendish in claiming a victory after seeing off Jasper Philipsen, who was later relegated, by the finest of margins on Stage 6. It was a thrilling finale to a chaotic day that saw race leader Tadej Pogacar briefly isolated as crosswinds caused a split in the peloton.

Cavendish makes history with record 35th stage win at Tour de France

Mark Cavendish moved clear of Eddy Merckx with his 35th stage win at the Tour de France as he created history on cycling’s biggest stage. The 39-year-old produced a supreme sprint to see off the favourites – a feat made even more remarkable after he suffered with sickness on the opening stage in Italy amid sweltering heat. Cavendish produced a superb sprint on Stage 5 in Saint Vulbas.
