Ogbene to the rescue as Ireland beat Latvia

Evan Ferguson scored his first international goal as the Republic of Ireland beat Latvia 3-2 in a friendly at Aviva Stadium. Callum O’Dowda had given Ireland an early lead however Roberts Uldrikis pulled a goal back with a screamer and Arturs Zjuzins levelled in first-half injury time. Substitute Chiedozie Ogbene struck a winner in the second half.

Ireland’s final home game of the year ended in a disappointing defeat as Norway beat Stephen Kenny’s side 2-1 in tonight’s international friendly fixture at the Aviva Stadium. A below-par first 45 minutes led to the visitors taking a well-deserved lead thanks to Leo Ostigard, Alan Browne fired Ireland level in the second half but a late winner arrived for Norway through Substitute Ohi Omoijuanfo.

Ireland set to launch bid to host Tour de France Grand Départ

The island of Ireland intends to pursue a joint North-South bid to host the opening stages of a future Tour de France in either 2026 or 2027. Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Minister Gordon Lyons MLA have today submitted an expression of interest in the formal bidding process to the Tour organisers.

Ireland face an uphill battle if they are to qualify for Euro 2024 after being drawn in a group with European heavyweights France and the Netherlands. They will also compete against Greece and Gibraltar in Group B. England have been drawn alongside Italy and Ukraine.
