Real Madrid reappoint José Mourinho on three-year deal

Real Madrid have confirmed the reappointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach. The 63-year-old has agreed a three-year deal and will begin work when the club returns for pre-season training on 13 July. Real Madrid have paid Benfica €15m in compensation to bring the Portuguese head coach back to the Bernabeu – more than a decade after his first stint at the club came to an end.

Sevilla sack manager Matías Almeyda

Sevilla have parted company with manager Matías Almeyda in the wake of their 2-0 loss to Valencia in LaLiga on Saturday. The Andalusian club sit 15th place in the table just three points above the drop with the 52 year old Argentine overseeing just one win in his last eight games. A replacement has not yet been named with their next game away to last placed Real Oviedo.

Xabi Alonso leaves Real Madrid replaced by Álvaro Arbeloa

Xabi Alonso has left his position as Real Madrid manager after less than eight months in charge, with his former Liverpool team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa taking over. The La Liga side said former Bayer Leverkusen manager Alonso, 44, had left by “mutual consent” and minutes later announced Arbeloa’s appointment. The former Spain and Real full-back has been promoted from coaching Real’s B team.
