Brady bags winner as Ireland defeat Finland

Robbie Brady fired home an 88th-minute winner as the Republic of Ireland picked up their first victory under Heimir Hallgrimsson with a 2-1 win in Finland. Finland were gifted a first-half opener when Irish captain Nathan Collins underhit a back pass, which allowed Joel Pohjanpalo to race through and slot past Caoimhin Kelleher. However a second half fightback saw Liam Scales and Brady score to power Ireland to a crucial victory.

Greek curse continues as Ireland slump to defeat

An improved performance, but ultimately another losing one as Ireland were beaten 2-0 by Greece in tonight’s UEFA Nations League encounter at the Aviva Stadium. Seamus Coleman ruled out of clash with Greece

Festy Ebosele has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad in place of the injured Seamus Coleman for Tuesday night’s crunch UEFA Nations League clash against Greece at the Aviva Stadium. The FAI have confirmed that Coleman has returned to Everton after suffering a foot injury in the second-half of Ireland’s 2-0 loss to England on Saturday.

Heimir Hallgrímsson appointed as new Ireland manager

Heimir Hallgrimsson has been appointed as the new head coach of the Republic of Ireland. He replaces interim manager John O’Shea, who has been in charge since Stephen Kenny’s departure in November last year. The 57 year old guided Iceland to Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup in Russia before a stint in Qatar. He most recently managed the Jamaican national team at the Copa America.

Ronaldo bags brace Portugal power past Ireland

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a fine double as a classy Portugal side signed off before Euro 2024 by comfortably beating the Republic of Ireland in Aveiro. Joao Felix opened the scoring for a much-changed Portugal side in the first half, curling home after the hosts caught the Republic out with a short corner. Ronaldo then fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner early in the second half and doubled his tally with a sweeping finish on the hour mark.
