Hosts Germany thrashed 10-man Scotland 5-1 on Friday with three goals in the first half to make a triumphant start to their Euro 2024 campaign and lay down a marker with the biggest opening-game margin of victory in the tournament’s history. The Germans, hunting a record fourth European title and first major trophy after a barren decade, scored through Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and a Kai Havertz penalty before Niclas Füllkrug and Emre Can added two more late in the second half.

McTominay double sees Scotland stun Spain

Scott McTominay scored a double as Scotland secured a famous victory over Spain to take control of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. The Manchester United midfielder, who netted twice in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Cyprus, fired in the opener at Hampden Park after just seven minutes leaving the Spaniards with an up hill battle.

Modric magic sees Croatia crush Scottish dreams to reach last 16

Luka Modric scores a sublime goal to help Croatia to a 3-1 victory over Scotland in Group D of Euro 2020. Nikola Vlašić had given Croatia the lead by Scotland levelled before the break through Callum McGregor. Croatia rose to the challenge and took second spot in the group thanks to Modric and a header from Ivan Perišić.
