Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch win bronze in double sculls

Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch have claimed Ireland’s fourth medal of the Paris 2024 Olympics with a bronze in the men’s double sculls. It also the first heavyweight rowing medal ever earned by Ireland at a Games. It follows up on the bronze the pair won at the World Championships in Belgrade last September and, for Doyle, it is a sea change from his Tokyo experience when he was, similarly, a firm medal favourite along with Ronan Byrne but couldn’t make the final.

Daniel Wiffen storms to gold in 800m final setting new Olympic record

Daniel Wiffen has won the gold medal in the 800m freestyle to become Ireland’s first Olympic champion at the 2024 Paris Games. He did exactly what he as promised in the Paris La Defense Arena tonight completing an astonishing 24 hours for Irish swimming. The 23-year-old is the first male swimmer to secure an Olympic medal of any colour as Ireland won their second medal – both in swimming – on only Day 4 of the 2024 Games.

Mona McSharry takes bronze for Ireland in 100m breaststroke final

Mona McSharry has won a historic Olympic bronze medal at the Paris Olympics tonight. The 23-year Sligo women finished third in the 100m breaststroke final at the Paris La Défense Arena in the French capital. Olympic record holder Tatjana Smith from South Africa tool the gold in 1:05.28 ahead of China’s Qianting Tang (1.05.25).

Kellie Harrington wins Gold in lightweight boxing

Kellie Harrington has won an Olympic gold medal. She defeated favourite Beatriz Ferreira from Brazil in the lightweight final to become only the third Irish boxer to be crowned Olympic champion. The five ringside judges all scored the fight in favour of the Irish woman who put in the performance of her life.

Harrington to fight for gold following semi-final win

Kellie Harrington is through to the Olympic lightweight final and will fight for the gold medal on Sunday. The 31-year-old Dubliner defeated Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee in a tight and tactical semi-final at the Kokugikan Arena. She prevailed by the narrowest of margins on a split 3-2 decision.
