Giacomo Nizzolo sprints to stage 13 glory – Giro d’Italia

Italy’s Giacomo Nizzolo took a belated first victory on the Giro d’Italia in Verona after coming from distance to power past compatriot Edoardo Affini in an exciting, if unorthodox, sprint finish to Stage 13. Nizzolo’s win came after the European champion’s run of 11 second places in his home race. Colombia’s Egan Bernal retained the pink jersey ahead of Saturday’s showdown on Monte Zoncolan.

Andrea Vendrame takes stage 12 from the breakaway – Giro d’Italia

Italy’s Andrea Vendrame proved the strongest of the remaining four escapees from a 16-man move which animated an eventful Stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia. Egan Bernal retained the pink jersey, but a late move from Vincenzo Nibali showed that Ineos Grenadiers are not unflappable after Gianni Moscon crashed on the final descent.
