Wolfsburg shock Real – Champions League Roundup

PSG hosted Manchester City tonight as the English side venture into the quarterfinals for the first time while Wolfsburg hosted Spanish superpower Real Madrid.

German  side Wolfsburg came into this tie on a poor run of form but produced a massive shock as they beat ten time champions Real Madrid 2-0 tonight at the Volkswagen Arena. Ricardo Rodriguez gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot with 18 minutes played before Maximilian Arnold doubled their advantage with 25 minutes gone. Real lost striker Karim Benzema to injury before halftime and Madrid coach Zidane’s changes failed to provide an away goal. Wolfsburg take a two goal advantage into next week’s away leg.

French champions PSG have been knocked out of the Champions league at this stage for the past three years. Their hopes of progressing further took a knock tonight as Manchester City scored two crucial away goals in an exciting draw at the Parc des Princes.Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a penalty saved by Joe Hart with 14 minutes gone before Kevin de Bruyne gave City the lead.However a moment of madness from Hart and Fernando saw Ibrahimovic poke home a poor pass from the Brazilian. French youngster Adrien Rabiot put the home side in front with a thirty minutes to play before Fernandinho equalised with 72 minutes gone. PSG will be without Blaise Matuidi and David Luiz due to an accumulation of yellow cards and face a battle next week with City holding two vital away goals.
