Russell edges out Antonelli for pole in Canada

George Russell beat Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli to pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix with the very last lap of the qualifying session. A final run on which he did two flying laps enabled him to pip Antonelli by 0.068 seconds. Antonelli had looked set to beat his team-mate when he eclipsed the time set by McLaren’s Lando Norris on the Briton’s first run, with Russell’s first lap on his final run good enough only for third.

Oli McBurnie’s stoppage-time goal gave Hull City a dramatic victory in the Championship play-off final over reinstated Middlesbrough and took the Tigers back to the Premier League. The title battle between Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli boiled over for the first time as the Englishman won a gripping sprint race at the Canadian Grand Prix. Russell and Antonelli collided in one incident and the Italian ran off track in another as they battled for the lead of the race in the early laps. Antonelli’s second off-track incident handed second place to McLaren’s Lando Norris and the three cars fought nose to tail until the end of the race.

Vingegaard climbs to stage 14 glory seizing Pink Jersey – Giro d’Italia

Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard took the overall leader’s pink jersey as he rode away from the rest of the favourites on the final climb to win a mountainous stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia. The two-time Tour de France winner claimed his third stage win of the 2026 edition with a superb late attack on the brutal 133km stage through the mountains to Pila. His Visma-Lease a Bike team led the peloton from the beginning of the last, toughest climb – a 16.6km drag to the finish line – and gradually reeled in a breakaway group.

Russell pips Antonelli to take pole for Canada Sprint

George Russell bounced back after a difficult recent run to beat Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli to sprint pole at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Briton, who is 20 points adrift of the Italian after four races this season, headed Antonelli by 0.068 seconds after being fastest on both runs in final qualifying. Lando Norris headed an all-McLaren second row, 0.315secs off pole and 0.019secs in front of team-mate Oscar Piastri.
