Damien Duff announces departure from Ireland coaching staff

The FAI have announced that Damien Duff is surprisingly standing down from his role as coach with the Republic of Ireland.

The 100-cap international joined Stephen Kenny’s staff last year after leaving his position on the Celtic coaching staff.

However, he has left with immediate effect, the football association confirmed, with no reason given for his exit.

“I want to thank Stephen for the opportunity he gave me to coach the senior team and I wish them the very best of luck for the World Cup qualifiers,” read a brief Duff statement.

Manager Kenny now has two months to find a replacement to join Keith Andrews in the fold.

“Damien is an excellent coach as he proved in his time with us and his contribution was greatly appreciated,” the ex-Dundalk boss added.

“I wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
