One change for Ireland ahead of tournament finale – 6 Nations

Irish coach Joe Schmidt has made just one alteration to his side which comprehensively beat Italy last Saturday ahead of this weekend’s clash against Scotland.Ireland welcome a Scottish squad full of confidence after they defeated France last weekend in Murrayfield. As this is the final match of the tournament Ireland will look for a win following what can only be described as a disappointing campaign. The Irish lineup is strong as expected and the players will have to give it their all come kickoff on Saturday as they face a tough test from the Scots.

Squad for Scotland

The only change to the lineup is the return of Tommy O’Donnell who replaces Josh Van der Flier at flanker. Van der Flier made his Irish debut against England and has put in impressive performances. O’Donnell returns from a hip injury that prevented him from taking part in last years Rugby World Cup to make his 12 cap. Schmidt said Van der Flier would have been match fit but is carrying a number of minor injuries “Josh has shipped a couple of knocks in the last two games, and he got a bump in training on Monday.” As a result of these minor knocks Van der Flier is not included in the match day squad. Hooker Rory Best has recovered from a calf niggle he picked up and will once again captain the side.

A win for Ireland could see them salvage third place in the competition following an injury hit campaign. Scotland are excellent at the breakdown and claiming the scalp of France last time out will certainly see Vern Cotter’s side travel to the Aviva full of belief. The match kicks off at 5pm and looks certain to be a war of attrition.
