Verstappen wins entertaining US GP sprint in Austin

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took his first Formula 1 victory for nearly four months with a controlled drive in the sprint race at the United States Grand Prix. Verstappen’s win extends his championship lead over McLaren’s Lando Norris to 54 points. Norris was running second going into the final lap but a lock-up at the first corner allowed Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to slip by in Austin, Texas.

Verstappen pips Russell to take pole for US Sprint

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took pole for the sprint race at the United States Grand Prix, with title rival Lando Norris fourth in his McLaren. Verstappen, who heads Norris by 52 points with six races to go, pipped Mercedes driver George Russell to pole position by 0.012 seconds. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was third fastest, 0.226secs slower than Verstappen, and Norris was 0.250secs off the pace in fourth.

Fastest lap point to be scrapped from F1 in 2025

Formula One bosses have taken the surprise decision to ditch the awarding of a bonus point for the fastest lap. The FIA’s move – announced ahead of this weekend’s US Grand Prix – comes after Daniel Ricciardo snatched the award away from championship contender Lando Norris at the previous round in Singapore.

Toyota return to F1 in partnership with Haas

Toyota are returning to Formula 1 for the first time since 2009 after signing a technical partnership with the Haas F1 Team that begins immediately. The Japanese manufacturer spent eight seasons in Formula 1 as a works team and engine supplier, scoring 13 podiums and achieving a best finish of fourth in the constructors’ championship. As part of the multi-year agreement, Haas and Toyota will “share expertise and knowledge, as well as resources”.

Daniel Ricciardo replaced by Liam Lawson at RB for rest of 2024

Daniel Ricciardo has been replaced at RB by Liam Lawson for the remainder of the 2024 season. The 35-year-old Australian has been dropped with six races to go because Red Bull management have been unconvinced by his performances. Giving Lawson the seat allows him to be assessed over the remaining races before Red Bull finalise their plans for 2025.
